“All people are created equal, but nowhere more so than in a sauna” – Sauna Proverb

Community Sauna Highland CIC

The physical, emotional and social benefits of regular sauna use are experienced by many and UK sauna bathing is growing. Community Sauna Highland CIC will make authentic outdoor sauna accessible to Highland communities by placing saunas close to where people live.

As a Community Interest Company, this is a not for profit venture that aims to improve accessibility to sauna throughout the Highlands.  In the same way that we might go for a run or walk, play a game of tennis, meet friends in the pub, take family to the park or visit the gym, we hope that visiting a local sauna space will become a regular choice.

Community Sauna Vision

Our vision is to establish the first urban community sauna space in Inverness. There will be a large sauna for 20 or more people, a cold plunge, and a rest area, allowing bathers to move between hot, cold and rest.

We aim to share information and education on safe and joyful sauna bathing, and contribute to the UK authentic outdoor sauna culture.

We will offer subsidised and/or adapted sauna use for community groups who might find usual arrangements a barrier.

Once the first sauna space is well established, we hope to move onto a second community sauna site and continue as long as this is welcome.

We hope to reach a diverse network of regular and future sauna bathers.

Community Sauna Team

Do you have the drive to see CSH thrive?  Are you ready to share responsibility for its development?  Then please get in contact about sharing the management of this vision with us.  Currently, our involvement is voluntary and we are particularly keen to hear from people with experience in operational management, building, carpentry, planning and/or marketing and community building.

Fergus Weir, CIC Director: I’ve lived in the Highlands for 26 years and I am an avid user and advocate for Sauna bathing practices. I designed and constructed a 4-person mobile Sauna in a horsebox, and more recently designed and built an 8-person, fixed sauna at my home. I have been combining Sauna and Highland cold water as thermotherapy for myself and others for several years and have lived experience of the therapeutic and health and wellbeing benefits that this thermal practice can bring us.

Pippa Hembry, CIC Director: I previously lived in London and discovered the benefits of Sauna for myself at Community Sauna Baths CIC. I now live in Inverness. With the support of Community Sauna Baths (CBS) CIC and the UK Sauna community I am committed to sharing accessible sauna practice in the Highlands.
